Never Dim Sum Alone @ Min Kok

Our chatroom quickly filled up with wonders of where to eat next for our weekly lunch gathering. The six of us always had trouble figuring out what worked best for us - location, taste, selection, and reputation were the main factors in selecting the most suitable restaurant.

Eventually, we found it. Min Kok Restaurant in Seremban! And so, we added the date to our calendar and made preparations.

On that lovely Thursday noon, we hopped in the car and drove over to the restaurant with a million stories to share with each other. The giggling and sing-a-longs were enough to pass the short time it took to reach our destination. Once we got out of the car, we paced ourselves towards the large glass door entrance.

Pass the minimalist front was a stunningly large hall of tables and a plethora of food ready to be devoured by our eager stomachs. Luckily, most of the tables available suited large groups so finding a spot for the six of us was a breeze.

We were handed a list of what they have available and asked what tea we wanted. Chrysanthemum, of course. It was our childhood in a boxed drink and it’s our adulthood with the genuine flower within the pot. When the trolley of dim sum finally arrives, we had to be careful in controlling ourselves. You can easily get carried away with how small the portions appear.

Our local expert in Dim Sum cuisine proudly showed her skills in selecting the best dishes from that restaurant and the best types in general. Our table slowly filled up with various dumplings like Siew Mai, Chee Cheong Fun, Char Siu Pau and the crispy pastries that were beautifully warm.

After the mandatory Instagram-photo session, we finally dug into the many variations of Dim Sum. It was like a mini buffet but, you didn’t have to get up for your food. Not to mention, with how it’s served, sharing our favorites with the rest of the group was very fun.

Throughout the lunchtime, we managed to catch up with each other’s recent endeavors and shared our potential futures. Someone recently got a partner and is now in the running to be the first one to get married between the six of us. Another landed her first job which was amazingly at her dream company. Despite the hardships we go through, it’s heart-warming to see the success we are able to achieve.

With empty plates and filled stomachs, it was time to pay. Of course, we couldn't forget the usual routine of playing games to decide the payee. We would still pay them back but, it’s easier for one person to pay first to save the confusion of mishandled notes and miscalculated payments.

The last time we ate together, we asked the waitress to choose a credit card - spoiler alert: I lost that day. This time around, we went with the classic game of Rock, Paper, Scissors. Certainly brought a lot of noise at our table. Sorry to the people who had to be patient with our racket.

After the loser of the game paid for our meal and once the bank transfers as well as cash return was made to her, we finally ended our eventful lunchtime. As always, it’s another memory to add with these precious people. I can’t wait for the next meal with my friends again; with a delicious meal like that, how could I ever consider having Dim Sum alone?
