We had the honor of sitting down with the Executive Director of Min Kok Restaurant, Ms. Joan Chong, who shared some interesting information about herself and the restaurant. Check the video above to meet her or read on below.
- Why is it named Min Kok?
"Min Kok" was the name of the founder, his name was Kok Min, with the surname "Chong", and he used his name in the other way round as the name of the restaurant.
- What is the first thing you do when you enter the restaurant?
I greet everyone with "Good Morning" or "Good Afternoon".
- What is your most memorable moment in the restaurant?
I've been working for 15 years and there's a lot of happiness, a lot of toughness (difficulties), and a lot of sadness I've been through. I think all and every moment is unforgettable for me.
- If you had to pick one Chinese dish to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be and why?
The one thing I love is my mom's cooking. My mom is a very good cook and she makes a lot of good food for different occasions like Chinese New Year and festivals. She will be cooking a lot of good dishes like Drunken Prawn, Sweet and Sour Pork, and a dialect special dish of Hakka called "LeiCha 擂茶" That's the thing I like the most.
- What advice would you give to your younger self?
If I would ever be young again, I wish to try a lot of new things, to experience it. I think that's what I would like to be in my life. Keep On Trying (also to anyone who needs a boost of confidence)
